Power of the Mind

Swami Vivekanada delivered a lecture on POWERS OF THE MIND , in Los Angeles , California on January 8 ,1900. In his lecture he explained that we all believe in supernatural, many of us had our own experiences of them. All these extraordinary powers are in our mind. Our mind is a part of universal mind. Each mind is in actual communication with the whole world. Have you ever noticed that sometimes some thought comes to your mind and the same thought is manifested in somebody else’s mind. Distance plays no role in this. The thought goes and reaches other mind. This shows that mind is universal. My mind, your mind , all minds are a part of universal mind. On this account we can convey our thoughts to anyone we want. He who knows and controls his mind knows the secret of every mind and has the power over every mind.
Over here, I would like to ask a question: Are we able to do all this? Ask yourself why not? The answer is we have no control over our mind. How can we control our mind? The answer lies in MEDITATION. The more you meditate, your mind is at peace and you can control your thoughts. Meditation not only clears our mind, it is a way to end our pain as well.

What will your students remember?

When I asked my friends what they remember about their former teachers, one said, "I remember a teacher who made me feel important. She saw something special in me.” Another stated, “It seemed like every day my teacher would always look me in the eye, smile at me.”
What I gathered was that a successful teacher is:
•    Calm and encouraging;
•    Respectful
•    Prepared and enthusiastic about teaching;
•    Able to demonstrate a sense of humor;
•    And able to create a positive classroom learning environment

Some of the comments I got from my friends about their favorite teacher are as follows:
1.    Got us involved in fascinating discussions.
2.    Gave exciting stories to us.
3.    Comforted me when I was sad.
4.    Acknowledged my positive points in front of class
5.    Never gave up on me.
6.    She had a solution to all my problems whether academic or personal.

Some who wanted to talk about the teachers they disliked were for the following reasons:
1.    Always tagged me with words like stupid and good for nothing.
2.    Used to always scream and shout for everything.
3.    I never used to ask my doubts due to fear.
4.    She used to be so boring in her teaching that we slept for almost all lectures she took.
5.    She never understood me and my problems and just compared me with everyone around.
The basic idea of the above article is to reflect about ourselves, not the way we perceive ourselves to be but the way our students see us. It is said that the impression of a teacher lasts till eternity I hope I am making the right one.

LIQUID ON A ROUGH SURFACE : A THIN FILM OR DROPLETS

The phenomenon of liquids coating rough surfaces in the form of films or droplets is commonplace. But how can we tell in what conditions a liquid will form a continuous film or just isolated drops? Existing theory generally describe ideally smooth surfaces, which are not so relevant in the real world. Now for the first time, scientists have developed a general theory that provide an answer to the question of film or droplets for rough surfaces. Liquids in large amounts are extraordinarily adaptable. They will fill any type of vessel and adapt their outer shape of any surface or border. Microscopically thin films of liquid, however, are a different story. They must mediate between the rough surface of an object and the free surface of the liquid, which always aims to be as smooth as possible due to the influence of surface tension. Now, researchers have succeeded in establishing a general theory of the phenomenon, which is valid for the vast majority of natural surfaces. In the calculation, they describes the roughness as statistical height distribution, since the peaks and troughs occur in disordered arrangements. The only conditions are that the roughness is shallow, and similar over the whole surface. This leads to amazingly simple expressions that requires not more than school Mathematics. The new equations reveal that the behavior of liquids depends quite simply on two parameters: the contact angle, which gives the angle of the surface of the liquid against the substrate, and the vapour pressure in the surrounding air (i.e. the humidity). In these cases, physicists speak of a transition between two phases. In the wet phase, the liquid forms a practically continuous film over the rough surface. Almost all the microscopic troughs are filled, and only occasionally does a particularly high peak break the surface. In the dry phase, however, large portions of the surface remains untouched by the liquid, as it clumps together into droplets. “ The system always selects the option that requires least energy in function of the vapour pressure and contact angle “.

Self Motivation

Many of us find ourselves in motivational slumps that we have to work to get out of. Sometimes, it’s like a continuous cycle where we are motivated for a period of time, fall out and then have to build things back up again.
A good way to be continuously self- motivated is to implement these 8 steps :-
1.    START SIMPLE- Keep things that give you that initial spark around you.
2.    KEEP GOOD COMPANY-Make more regular encounters with positive and motivated people.
3.    KEEP LEARNING- The more you learn, the more confident you become.
4.    STAY POSITIVE- See the good in bad.
5.    STOP THINKING- Just do.
6.    KNOW YOURSELF- Keep notes on when your motivation sucks and when you feel like a superstar.
7.    TRACK YOUR PROGRESS- When you see something growing you will always want to nurture it.
8.    HELP OTHERS- Share your ideas and help friends get motivated.

Alignment

‘An ordinary piece of Iron becomes a powerful magnet by aligning all its molecules in the same directions.’

People might look similar in outward appearance but it is the alignment from within that makes one a powerful personality. A person who aligns one’s ambitions, talent, knowledge, experience and resources alone becomes powerful like a magnet to attract pieces of success.
